Historical Fountains Save Residents And Guests Of Paris From Exhausting Heat

Historical fountains in the capital of France, the city of Paris help residents and tourists to survive the heat established with the onset of summer weather.

This week, strong heat covered a number of European countries, including France.

As reported in the French meteorological agency Météo France, on July 1, due to the abnormal heat in 16 departments, including Paris, a red level of anxiety was declared, another 68 departments have an orange warning level.

In connection with hot weather, residents are recommended not to wait for a sense of thirst and drink water in advance. Corresponding reminders are broadcast on television, on social networks and in public transport.

With warming in Paris, historical fountains again began to refresh for citizens and tourists.

In Paris, there are 1,200 fountains

According to the municipal company Eau de Paris, which is responsible for the water supply of the French capital, there are about 1,200 street fountains in Paris.

The history of Parisian fountains located on the streets and in the gardens of the city dates back to the 13th century. Especially in recent years, when the summer is becoming increasingly hot, the meaning of these historical structures has grown markedly.

In the city you can find both ancient and modern fountains. A special place among them is occupied by the so-called “Walles fountains”, which are distinguished by their dark green color. They were named after the British collector and politics of Richard Wallace, who gave Paris 50 such fountains.

Residents of the city consider fountains useful

In the heat of the Montso Park, in the 8th district of Paris, city fountains use to fill the bottles with water, wash and drink pets.

Austria Victoria G., who has been living in Paris for a year, told Anadol that she considers these fountains very useful. “They are especially convenient for children and parents playing in the park,” she said.

Victoria added that she always carries a reusable bottle with her so as not to buy new ones. “I like that there are many such fountains in Paris,” she stressed.

A resident of the Czech Republic Ameli E. said that in the heat, people can drink water from fountains and cool their hair. “For children and adults in such a heat, this is very important,” she said.

According to Amelie, given the high price of plastic water in Paris, the fountains become an affordable alternative and help to cool in the last hot days.
