In Libya, they protest against decision of House of Representatives to devalue national exchange rate

In the city of Misurat in the west of Libya, a protest was held against the decision of the House of Representatives to devalue the national currency course.

The Libyans gathered on the city square of the Misurates demanded from Akile Salich, the chairman of the House of Representatives in the city of Tobruk in the east of the country, to withdraw a decision to reduce the course of national currency.

The participants in the action attracted attention to the negative consequences that Salich’s decision, in their opinion, will have for the welfare of the Libyan people.

The demonstrators said they will announce civil disobedience in case of refusal of the House of Representatives to withdraw the decision.

In addition, the participants of the action called on two governments in the east and west of the country to refrain from excessive expenses.

Many carried posts to the shares with crossed out images of the Chairman of the House of Representatives Akile Salikh, Chairman of the Central Bank of Sydedyk al-Kubi and Prime Minister Libya Abdulhamid Dibaib.

Akile Salikh, on March 15, at the request of al-Kubi, he decided to sign a decree on a decrease in the value of the Libyan Dinar with respect to the US dollar by 27 percent. And on March 19, Dibeib said that the government refuses to agree with the decision of Salikh.

Prior to the decision, 1 US dollar corresponded to 4.8 Libyan dinars in the Central Bank and the Interbank circulation, and in the free market $ 1 was traded for 7.2 dinars.

Since February 2022, two different governments have been operating in the east and west of Libya, and a similar situation prevents the promotion of the political process in the country.
