Investigative bodies of the Ulyanovsk region opened a criminal case on the fact of insulting religious feelings of believers after desecration of the Koran by a foreign citizen. This was reported by the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Ulyanovsk Region.
“Investigative bodies of the IC of Russia in the Ulyanovsk Region, in cooperation with regional departments of the FSB and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, have established and detained a 28-year-old citizen of a foreign state suspected of committing crimes under Part 1 of Article 148 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public actions expressing a clear disrespect for society and committed in order to insult the religious feelings of believers), part 1 of article 213 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (hooliganism), ”the message will say.
The message notes that on July 1, 2023, the suspect, being on a pedestrian bridge over the Sviyaga River, connecting the streets of Abluukov and Vorobyov G. Ulyanovsk, committed public actions in order to insult the religious feelings of believers – trampled the Qur’an, threw it into the river and doused him and doused him alcoholic drink. At the same time, he recorded his actions on the video, which he subsequently published in the public domain on the Internet.
The investigator will petition for the election of a preventive measure in the form of a detention.
In the framework of the criminal case, searches are carried out at the place of residence of the suspect in order to detect objects relevant to the investigation.
