Iran forbade mining cryptocurrency

Iran’s authorities ordered to close authorized mining centers cryptocurrencies in the country to reduce the burden on the country’s power plants. It is reported by Aljazeera.com.

The prohibition that will be valid until March 6 releases 209 megawatts of electricity for consumption in the household. The authorities also take severe measures against illegal mineral mining, conducted by both individuals and large industrial enterprises.

Other fuel economy measures include outdoor lighting in some areas and regulation of electricity consumption in offices. The government expects an increase in electricity production in summer by 60%.

Earlier this year, Iran forbade the mining cryptocurrency for a while against the background of a series of electricity outages in large cities, which is partly due to a surge of the energy-intensive process.

Although most of the mining cryptocurrency was concentrated for a long time in China, the situation has changed this year, when the national ban sent operators to other countries, especially in places offering cheap electricity.
