Japan: for first time in world, lungs from living donor a man with Covid-19

Hospital specialists at the University of Kyoto in Japan conducted a successful transplant operation of lungs from a living donor to a patient suffering from severe pneumonia caused by new coronavirus. This announced the Japanese University, reports TASS.

“It is expected that the world’s first lung transplant from the living donor will be a promising way to treat patients with serious lungal damage,” the published message of the group of Japanese specialists says.

Woman was transferred to the lungs of her spouse and son. She infected with coronavirus at the end of last year, her condition was gradually deteriorating, both lungs began to refuse. The operation lasted about 11 hours. Currently, the patient and both donors feel good.

It is noted that such an operation was carried out for the first time in the world – previously patients with coronavirus patients have transplanted only from donors in a cerebral coma.
