Kanevsky: totalitarian regime could not break Azerbaijani people

January 20, 1990, known as Black January, is one of the most tragic days in the history of Azerbaijan, wrote on his Facebook page the Ambassador of Ukraine to Azerbaijan Vladislav Kanevsky.

“Exactly on the night of January 19 to January 20, 1990, the totalitarian Soviet machine ordered the commissioning of the Soviet Army to Baku and made a bloody massacre over the civilian population of Azerbaijan, who advocated the independence and sovereignty of their state.

147 civilians were killed, 744 innocent residents of the city were injured and more than 400 were illegally arrested on this terrible night.

Soon, the events of the Black January gave an impetus to strengthening the movements for independence in other enslaved republics of the Soviet Union, including in Ukraine, giving the peoples of these countries the long -awaited freedom. However, the totalitarian regime could not break the will and spirit of the Azerbaijani people and suppress the thirst for independence. I condole your loss, we have not forgotten, ”wrote the diplomat.
