Kremlin: Armenia officially did not notify suspension of membership in CSTO

Armenia did not send official notifications regarding the freezing of membership in the organization of the collective security agreement (CSTO). This was announced by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov to the Zvezda television channel.

“The Armenian side did not take any official actions in this connection. We mean, of course, to make contact with our colleagues and clarify the meaning of these statements. It is very important to understand the details, so we will hope that our Armenian Friends will explain to us everything, ”said Peskov.

In addition, the Kremlin spokesman said that Russian President Vladimir Putin has not yet discussed with the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan his statement about the suspension of membership in the CSTO

“At the moment there were no contacts. But within the framework of working contacts, of course, we mean to find out from our Armenian friends what was meant, how are things. Therefore, we will continue our dialogue with Yerevan” – said the representative of the Kremlin, whose words are given by the Russian media.

Earlier, the Prime Minister of Armenia Pashinyan in an interview with the France 24 television channel said that Yerevan froze his participation in the CSTO.

“The collective security agreement, in our opinion, was not fulfilled in relation to Armenia, especially in 2021-2022. This could not be left without our attention. We suspended our participation in this agreement. Let’s see what will happen next” – said Pashinyan.

At the same time, he assured that the issue of the possible closure of the Russian military base in Armenia is not on the agenda.

The CSTO Secretariat also said that to date, no statements by Yerevan about the suspension of membership in the CSTO were received.
