Kremlin did not agree with statement of default in Russia

In the Kremlin, they do not agree with the statements of the occurrence of default for foreign exchange obligations in Russia, said the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

Earlier, Bloomberg reported that on the night of June 27, Russia for the first time since 1918 made a default on sovereign duty in foreign currency.

During the press collars, Dmitry Peskov said that “statements about default are absolutely unlawful,” because Russia made the necessary payments in the currency in May. “The fact that EuroClear (European depository) delayed this money is no longer our problem,” said the representative of the Kremlin, whose words are quoted by Kommersant.

The question is whether Russia is taking steps to return the frozen reserves, Dmitry Peskov replied: “I do not know about it.” “Of course, we analyze the situation. Our position is well known- the first: they are illegally blocked. Any attempts to use these reserves in any way will also be illegal and, in fact, will mean direct theft,” added Peskov.

May 25, the action of the Russian license expired, with which it could serve external debt. The United States did not extend this license. In June, the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation began payments for Eurobonds in rubles. Finance Minister Anton Siluanov believes that the European Union and the United States specially create Russia for payments to “hang the label” of default.
