The Russian military are in Syria at the invitation of local authorities, while American colleagues do not have such an invitation. This was stated on Tuesday by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov on Tuesday, commenting on the request of TASS the publication of The Washington Post.
According to the newspaper, the American authorities claim that the US forces have recently encountered an increased number of “provocative” and “escalation” actions by Russia and Iran in the Middle East, including in Syria.
“Let’s not forget that there is still a fundamental difference in the presence of Americans there and in finding us. Still, our contingent is there in strict accordance with international law, at the invitation of the Syrian leadership. And the Americans do not have such an invitation” , – said the representative of the Kremlin in response to the question of whether the tension between the groups of Russian and American troops really intensifies in Syria.
