A criminal case has been instituted against Mehti Mekhtiev, the leader of the Azerbaijani diaspora in the Russian city of Voronezh, who also heads the Unity-Birlik organization.
According to the information submitted by the press service of the Left Bank District Court of Voronezh, Mekhtiev opened fire on the local market “Alekseevka”.
The shooting incident itself occurred in the summer, July 11. According to investigators, going into one of the market kiosks, Mehtiev quarreled with a man and, after exchanging insults, took out a traumatic gun and fired the offender in his leg.
Law enforcement officers qualified the actions of Mehtiev as causing harm to the health of medium severity and brought a criminal case on it.
Note that the regional Russian media wrote about this incident in July. It was reported, in particular, that Mehtiev quarreled with the tenant of one of the facilities due to untimely deposit of rent. It was also noted that for some time city law enforcement agencies tried to hide this incident. The fact is that Mehti Mehtiev is a rather famous person in Voronezh, he is called the close face of the governor of the region Alexei Gordeev. Mekhtiev is also a member of the National Chamber under the governor of Voronezh.
According to sources in the Azerbaijani diaspora of Voronezh, a certain Vugar, renting a premises under a hairdresser on the market, became a victim of Mehtiev. The dispute arose due to the fact that Vugar paid for rent directly to the leadership of the market, and not personally to Mehtiev. And although the victim did not apply to the police, they are sure that Mekhtiev will definitely hold an “explanatory conversation” with the VUGAR, since his actions are negatively affecting the image of the leader of the Azerbaijani diaspora.
Mekhtiev himself then made a statement to the official information agency “Voronezh”, in which he did not deny the fact of the use of traumatic weapons, but insisted that he did “for self -defense.”

It is curious that Mekhtiev was detained only in early November, in the Nur restaurant, where the Khazar diaspora organization celebrated the Day of the State Flag of Azerbaijan.
