Leaders of East Africa will urgently gather due to situation in Sudan

The intergovernmental organization for development (Igaya) will hold an emergency meeting in connection with clashes between the army and the rapid response forces (SBR) in Sudan.

As the press secretary Igamy Muhammad Sheikh told Anadol, the leaders of the countries participating in the organization will gather for discussing the situation in Sudan on Sunday, April 16th.

The leaders of such countries as Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia previously called for the cessation of clashes in Sudan.

The Chairman of the Commission of the African Union Musa Faki Mohammed demanded that the parties immediately stop the destruction of the country, and the international community undertakes agreed efforts to stop the conflict.

In Hartum and a number of other cities of Sudan in the morning, on Saturday, April 15, armed clashes between the army and the SBR broke out. The clashes lasted all night. The death of 56 civilians and wounds of another 595 people are reported, including the military.

Disagreements regarding the reform of military security, which provides for the complete integration of the SBR into the armed forces, resulted in a hot conflict between two power structures.
