Like in cinema: arrest of drug lord led to riots with shooting

The Mexican police, together with the military on Thursday, arrested the son of the famous drug lord El Chapo (Shortyshki) in the city of Kuljakan Sinaloa. BBC reports that the operation was accompanied by firing and arson of cars, several bullets hit the plane of a local airline.

As the Minister of Defense of Mexico said, General Luis Krespensio Sandoval, before Ovidio Gusman-Lopes was captured, he was observed for six months. According to the Minister of Defense of Mexico, Gusman-Lopes was charged with heading the branch of the drug cartel Sinaloa, founded by his father. This is one of the world’s largest underground organizations engaged in production, smuggling and drug trafficking.

Sandoval also clarified that the operation to capture the drug lord was carried out with the support of the US authorities, and now the criminal is contained in a safe place in the capital of the country of Mexico City.

After it became known about the arrest of the drug lord, riots flashed in Kuljakan, shooting began, cars on the streets lit up. Local authorities distributed a notification in social networks that educational and administrative activities in Kuljakan were temporarily suspended. The mayor of Kuljakan said that the military from dawn conduct a special operation and many areas are cordoned off.

The arrest of the drug lord and riots in Kuljakan occurred on the eve of the visit to Mexico by US President Joe Biden, who will take part in the Summit of the leaders of the North America countries, which opened in Mexico City Future week.
