Lithuania from June 1 will withdraw ambassador to Russia and liquidate consulate in St. Petersburg

Lithuania officially recalls Aitwidas Bayarunas from the post of ambassador in Russia. In addition, the country closes its consulate in St. Petersburg, reports Delfi.

According to the report, the ambassador must stop fulfilling the duties from June 1. Also, according to the intentions of the Lithuanian government, from June 7, the Lithuanian Consulate General in St. Petersburg will be liquidated. Moscow closed it after Lithuania’s decision to send the head of the Russian Embassy in Vilnius Alexei Isakov and employees of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Klaipeda.

As previously reported, the Lithuanian parliament unanimously recognized Russia as a “terrorist state” – “All 128 deputies of the Sejm voted for the adoption of the relevant resolution. The Seim of Lithuania called the Russian Federation’s invasion of the Ukrainian people and called on the international community to create a special criminal tribunal for the investigation and assessments of Russia’s actions against Ukraine.
