Macron opposed presence of Russian flag at Olympics in Paris

French President Emmanuel Macron opposed the presence of the Russian delegation at the Olympic Games-2024 in Paris.

“There can be no Russian flag at the Olympic Games in Paris. There is no place in the Olympic Games while it commits war crimes,” Macron said in an interview with the newspaper L’Equipe.

According to him, the decision on the individual participation of Russian athletes in the Olympic Games remains with the International Olympic Committee.

“The main issue that will be resolved by the Olympic world is what place to take these Russian athletes who are sometimes preparing all their lives and can also be victims of the regime,” the president said.

Macron also noted that the issue of participation of Russian athletes in the Olympic Games in the capital of France should not be politicized.

On July 13, the press service of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) reported that on July 26, an invitation to the 2024 203 National Olympic Committee will be sent to the Olympic Games. At the same time, the Olympic Committee of Russia and Belarus did not enter this number. A similar decision was made in connection with the sanctions imposed by the IOC regarding Russian and Belarusian sports due to conflict in Ukraine.

Paris will receive the XXXIII summer Olympic Games, which will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024. But football and rugby competitions will begin on July 24, and the gandbox tournament – the 25th.

In three weeks with a small one, 329 sets of awards in 32 sports will be played. The teams of 206 National Olympic Committees and the Olympic team of refugees will take part.
