McDonald’s leave Kazakhstan

McDonald’s Corporation intends to leave Kazakhstan after the failures caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine left a Central Asian country without replacing Russian meat supplies. The network is expected for 6 years.

Although Kazakhstani enterprises do not fall under the sanctions against Moscow, McDonald’s forbade the franchise to purchase meat cutlets from Russian suppliers, sources said. 24 restaurants McDonald’s, owned by Food Solutions KZ LLP, suspended work in November due to supply problems, writes Bloomberg.

According to people familiar with the situation, Kazakhstani business could not purchase meat cutlets from local or European suppliers, since higher prices and transportation costs of transportation of goods in a huge country would mean doing business at a loss. McDonald’s refused to comment.
