Merkel: Russia was waiting for my departure to start a war against Ukraine

The former German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that in the future it would be ready to act as an intermediary to resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Interfax reports.

When asked whether she is ready to play this role now, the ex-Chancell replied: “At the moment, this issue is not discussed.”

Merkel also noted that shortly before her departure from politics, she tried to find decisions of the Ukrainian crisis, but did not succeed. At the same time, she does not believe that the Russian leadership was waiting for her departure from the post of chancellor in order to start a war in Ukraine.
