Moldova President did not exclude voting by mail in presidential election at end of year

The Republic of Moldova can go to vote by mail in the presidential election at the end of the year, the head of state Maya Sandu said, the Moldavian news portal Noi.md.

The president noted that she does not see a problem in changing the Code of Elections in this sense even in the year of the elections.

“I think that such a vote needs to be tried, especially in countries with a larger territory where it is difficult to get to polling stations. The government and parliament should do it now, and I know that this discussion has been going on for some time”, – said Maya Sandu.

At the same time, the head of state clarified that voting by mail could bring more votes in a referendum on the entry of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union.

“I believe that a referendum on the entry of the Republic of Moldova in the EU unites us all. This is a necessary, natural and logical step to confirm the choice of Moldovan citizens and restore a strong peaceful and prosperous future. EU entering the EU will benefit everything. Everyone wants peace. This is a project that unites us all, ”the head of state noted.

The entry of the Republic of Moldova into the EU is a very important decision for the country, so it is absolutely necessary that as many people as possible take part in this election so that this decision is representative, Sandu said.

“Therefore, the idea arose to hold elections on the same day with a referendum, and hence the idea to try to succeed with voting by mail,” the president added.
