Moscow considers extra duplication of efforts of mediation between Baku and Yerevan

Russia welcomes any initiatives that can support efforts to normalize relations between Baku and Yerevan.

This was stated in an interview with TASS, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Mikhail Galuzin.

“We welcome any initiatives that are able to support efforts to normalize relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. As I said, the reconciliation of Baku and Yerevan is based on a set of tripartite agreements of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia. I mean the measures to unlock transport and economic ties, divisions of the border. Strengthening trust through the contacts of social activists and experts, preparing a peace treaty. The main thing is to avoid duplication and competition of intermediary efforts, to achieve their synergy, ”he said, answering the question of how the Russian Federation refers to the initiative Egypt about mediation between Yerevan and Baku.

“In this way, we perceive the initiative of such a large and influential country as Egypt to assist the peace process between Baku and Yerevan,” added Galuzin.

Earlier, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said that Egypt is ready to become an intermediary between Armenia and Azerbaijan to normalize relations between these countries.
