Moscow see threat in defense agreement of Finland and USA

Finland’s defense agreement with the United States will pose a threat to Russia. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, commenting on Helsinki’s decision to sign a defense agreement with Washington.

“We can only regret in this connection, because Finland and I had a great relationship, and no one threatened anyone, there were no problems, no complaints about each other, no one infringed on each other’s interests, there was mutual respect and there was mutual respect and so on, ”said Peskov, whose words are given by Russian media.

Now, according to the Kremlin representative, when Finland has become a member of NATO and when the NATO military infrastructure will already go inside, for the Russian side, “this will pose a threat, quite obvious.”

Earlier, the Finland Foreign Ministry announced plans to sign on December 18 an agreement with the United States on cooperation in the field of defense.

The beginning of negotiations on the entry of Ukraine and Moldova in the EU

In addition, the spokeswoman for the Russian president called the “politicized” decision of the European Union to begin negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova to join their unification.

“The European Union is already experiencing not the best times in its history and from the point of view of functioning, and from the point of view of the economy. Therefore, of course, it is clear that this is an absolutely politicized decision and the EU desire to demonstrate the support of these countries in this way”, – said Peskov.

He recalled that the process of joining the European Union can last long, decades. “The EU has always been quite stringent criteria for entry, and at the moment it is obvious that neither Ukraine nor Moldova meet these criteria,” the representative of the Kremlin confirms.

“This EU desire in this way demonstrates the support of these countries, but, of course, such new members can actually destabilize the EU. And, of course, since the EU and I live on the same European continent, this is not good for us, so we carefully observe this “, – added the press secretary of the Kremlin.

Peskov noted that the intention to accept Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia in the EU, is aimed at annoying Russia. “These, of course, are absolutely sovereign affairs of Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova. But here you can immediately see the politicization of this decision. Because if you go strictly for considerations of practicality, from pragmatic considerations and the need to comply with the criteria, then there is no need to talk about it”, – said Peskov. “Unfortunately, each time this desire to demonstrate such political will is made largely on the basis of the desire to even more annoy Russia and antagonize these countries in relation to Russia,” he stressed.

Earlier, the European Union countries decided to start negotiations on the admission of Ukraine and Moldova in the association and the provision of the status of a candidate for the entry of Georgia.
