Mystery of origin of Covid-19: WHO creates a new team in investigating a pandemic

The World Health Organization has formed a new group of experts to study the origin of coronavirus. The group’s work can be the “last chance of humanity” to learn the truth about the appearance of the SARS-COV-2 virus, writes Reuters.

26 people entered the scientific and advisory group on the origin of new pathogens (SAGO). The organization called for China to cooperate, in particular, Beijing is asked to provide a group of data on the first cases of the disease in Uhana. According to the head of WHO Tedros Adhanom Greesus, it was their shortage that was the reason for the failure of the previous investigation.

The head of WHO supports the epidemiologist Maria Van Kerhone. According to her, the data on the first days of the epidemic in the Uhana are “critically important” to investigate. “Perhaps this is our last chance to understand how this virus appeared,” – emphasizes the main expert of emergency situations Michael Ryan.

Mission plans to spend about 30 studies to find out if the virus could move from the animal to man. And also expects to obtain data on the work of research centers in the places of the first outbreaks of the disease to check the version of the virus leakage.

At the same time, the Chinese ambassador to UN Chen Xu believes that the results of the work of previous missions are “completely clear.” According to him, the experts were already twice in China and, perhaps, “It’s time to send a group to other places.”
