New tariffs for passage of ships through Turkish straits entered into force

On July 1, 2023, new duties for the passage of ships through Istanbul (Bosphorus) Strait and the Strait of Chanakkale (Dardanella) entered into force.

New tariffs set the level of taxes and fees of $ 4.42 per ton from each vessel (previously 4.08 dollars).

The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey Abdulcadier Uraloglu said in this regard that according to the presidential decree, the fee for passage through Turkish straits will be reviewed annually on July 1 automatically.

The head of the Ministry of Transport recalled that the duty was originally charged from each ship on average at 3,40 dollars. In 2002, the fee was raised to $ 16,393, and according to the tariff as of July 1, 2023, a fee of $ 17,760 will be charged with a clean tonnage of 10 thousand tons.

The Montreo Convention of 1936 determines taxes and fees (for the lighthouse, demolition and sanitary inspection) applied to the courts passing through the Turkish straits without sunset.
