Turkey is preparing for the construction of the first domestic small-sized submarine using domestic and national resources. Experts believe that the export potential of this submarine, which can be used in the Aegean and Mediterranean seas, is extremely large, reports Timeturk.com.

The project and technical characteristics of submarines called STM500 are presented at the international exhibition of the defense industry İdef-2021 in Istanbul and have already caused a large excitement.
The submarine can perform in the offline task in the sea for 30 days with the crew in the composition of 18 people, plus six people auxiliary personnel. STM500 can conduct underwater fight, conduct special operations in shallow water, monitor observation and exploration.
Length of submarines – 42, height is eight meters. It will be installed eight torpedo devices and rocket launch system.
STM500 has a displacement of about 540 tons. The maximum immersion depth will be 250 meters.
