New York Prosecutor General Leticia James asked the court to hold the former US President Donald Trump, his adult children, Trump Organization and their lawyers because of their false, in her opinion, answers to her claims in the amount of $ 250 million, reports Reuters.
In September last year, the prosecutor accused Trump of involvement in the manipulation scheme with the cost of his assets created to encourage banks and insurers to provide the best conditions.
January 26, defendants filed formal answers in which, as often happens in such trials, they denied the accusations or declared the lack of sufficient information. In a letter to the judge considering the case, James indicated that many answers were “clearly false.”
Earlier in January, the court in New York ordered Trump Organization to pay $ 1.6 million in the form of fines in the case of financial fraud.
In July 2021, Trump Organization and its financial director Allen Welena Weisselberg were charged with tax evasion, involvement in fraud, property of property and forgery. Companies, in particular, were charged with an artificial overestimation of the value of its assets in order to obtain loans. The company’s management did not plead guilty. In December last year, the jury of the New York district Manhattan found the company guilty.
