About 161 million of the country are deprived of food security. The director of the Food Security and Nutrition Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Safety of Nigeria Alhaji Nuhu Kilishi reported at a meeting in Abuj, dedicated to the response plan to the food and nutritional crisis (FNSCPP).
According to him, the government has already begun to take measures to combat this serious problem. In particular, within the framework of the World Bank for the acceleration of the achievement of results in the field of nutrition (Anrin), a plan was developed aimed at expanding sustainable and high -quality access to vulnerable groups of the population.
Kilishi noted that if in 2014 the level of average and severe food insurance was 35 %, then in recent years it increased to 74 %. Currently, only about 20 % of the Nigerians have stable access to food.
He emphasized that people are not sure of the next meal, and the situation exacerbates the growing instability, armed attacks, abduction of people and economic difficulties that negatively affect agricultural production.
Among the anti -crisis measures, Kilishi called the distribution of seeds and other agricultural resources for home gardening in 774 municipalities of the country.
