Number of victims of forest fires in Chile has increased to 112 people

The number of victims of forest fires raging in the central and southern part of Chile has increased to 112 people.

According to BBC with reference to the Chilean authorities, from 3 to 6 thousand houses,

were damaged as a result of fires in the city of Valparaiso.

The Ministry of Health reported on the transition to a state of increased readiness, called for hospitals to postpone non -processing operations and ordered the creation of field hospitals.

The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Chilea Carolina Toha, in contact with the nation, stated that the number of dead could increase.

The Minister said that in addition to 1400 firefighters, emergency services and military personnel are also involved in the localization of the fires, and the cause of the fire is investigated.

The government warned citizens against traveling to the areas injured from fires.

Earlier, local media wrote that the fire broke out in the natural park of Lake Penuelas, about 20 kilometers from Valparaiso.

In the Chilean National Service for Prevention and Response to Spontaneous Disaster (Senapred), they reported that due to strong winds the fire is quickly spreading and in some cities the evacuation of the population began.

Toha reported that the firefighters managed to take control of about 40 foci of the fire, another 29 extinguished. The minister suggested that in some cases the foci could be created “deliberately”.

President Chile Gabriel Borich announced a state of emergency in the country. In cities raised by fire, a commandant hour has been declared to simplify the movement of firefighters and equipment on roads.
