Orthodox Christians note Easter

Orthodox believers all over the world celebrate Easter – the oldest and most important Christian holiday.

This year, Orthodox Easter falls on May 5. Catholics and Protestants celebrated it on March 31.

Easter refers to the transitional church holidays. Its date in each specific year is calculated according to the lunar-salt calendar. The celebration always falls on Sunday after the full moon following the spring equinox.

In the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow, the main Easter service took place, which gathered several thousand people. Service was performed by the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ Kirill.

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived at Easter service in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, where he traditionally meets the main Orthodox holiday.
