Pope called on Russia to resume “grain deal”

Pope Francis called on Russia to resume the Black Sea grain initiative.

Pontiff made a corresponding call after the traditional Sunday preaching.

“I urge my brothers and the Russian authorities to return to the Black Sea initiative so that the grain can be transported safe,” he said.

July 22, 2022 in Istanbul in the presence of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and UN Secretary General Antoniu Guterrish, an agreement was signed on the safe transportation of grain from the ports of Ukraine.

Signatures under the document were made by representatives of Ukraine, Russia, the UN and Turkey.
