Presidential candidate is accused of illegal assignment of money from European Union Funds

The Prosecutor’s Office of France reported that in mid-March, the report of the European Bureau to Combat Fraud (OLAF), which refers to the illegal assignment of the EU budgetary funds by the leader of the National Association and the presidential candidate Marin Le Pen.

Mediapart writes that the OLAF investigation concerns not only Le Pen, but also her father Jean-Marie Le Foam, her civil husband Louis Alo and the former vice president of the Bruno Galnisha party.

The investigation believes that together these persons have assigned about € 617,000 ($ 667,094) the investigation requires them to compensate these funds.

The report says that it is about the period from 2004 to 2017, when all the case persons were members of the European Parliament. It is noted that they spent all the money for the needs of the party, in particular for payment of hotels or the organization of events – at the same time, according to the results of the investigation, none of the defendants did not use the funds for personal purposes.

Investigative figures have already rejected all accusations of their address. Lawyer Marin Le Pen stated that he was “alarmed by how Olaf operates,” noting that some events set forth in the investigation occurred more than ten years ago, while the report came out in the midst of the presidential race in France.

On April 17, the first tour of the presidential election was held in France. After counting 100% of Emmanuel Macron bulletins scored 27.85% of the vote, Marin Le Pen received 23.15%. The second round of the presidential election in France will be held on April 24th.
