Prime Minister Cambodia announced resignation after 38 years in power

Prime Minister Cambodia Hong Saint said he would resign within three weeks and transfer post to his eldest son Hong Manet. The politician said this in appeal to citizens of the country, transferred on state television.

Hong Saint noted that he notified his decision of King Cambodia Norodom Siamoni and the monarch accepted his remaining

“I would like to announce that I will not continue to hold the post of prime minister. The new government will lead Hong Manet,” the prime minister said.

Previously, the ruling People’s Party of Cambodia won the parliamentary elections in the country, receiving 120 of 125 seats in the National Assembly (lower house of parliament).

Currently, 45-year-old Hong Manet is the commander in chief of the country.

Hong Saint has been in power for more than 38 years. He took the post of Prime Minister Cambodia in January 1985.
