Russian Criminal Code introduces “military” articles

The State Duma made a package of amendments to the bill on amendments to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, said the head of the Agora human rights group Pavel Chikov.

The Code wants to introduce the concepts of “mobilization”, “martial law” and “wartime”, as well as new articles: “Voluntary surrender”, “Marauding” and others.

According to new articles, they are offered to be put in captivity for a period of three to 10 years. For looting – up to 15 years. In the list of aggravating circumstances, a crime appears “during the period of mobilization or martial law, in wartime”.

The refusal to participate in military or hostilities is proposed to be punished by deprivation of liberty for a term of two to three years.

A group of articles on non -fulfillment of the state defense order and violation of the terms of the state contract is also introduced, for which it can face up to ten years.

On Tuesday, September 20, the second reading of the bill is planned. The State Duma can accept it simultaneously and in the third, final.
