Sandu believes that European Union will help to return Transnistria

The provision of Moldova’s status of the Candidate country to the European Union will ensure greater stability in Eastern Europe and promote the peaceful resolution of the Transnistrian conflict, said President of the Republic of Maya Sandu.

“The application for the entry of Moldova in the EU is a choice based on the aspirations of our people. Every third Moldavian is already a citizen of the European Union (about a million citizens of Moldova also have citizenship of Romania, about 100 thousand Bulgaria). Moldavians live side by side with other European citizens, contributing to the social assistance system, paying taxes and contributing to the enrichment of the cultural heritage of the European Union, ”wrote Sandu in an article published on Tuesday in several European publications – El Pais, Le Figaro, Die Welt, Le Soir, Gazeta Wyborcza, Publico, La Repubblica and G4Media.

According to her, European Moldova will bring more stability to Eastern Europe, develop trade and increase the welfare of the region. “The status of the candidate also gives us the opportunity to find a peaceful decision of the Transnistrian conflict, which will allow us to reintegen the region and strengthen Moldova even more. But most importantly, European Moldova will help to achieve the main goal of the European Union – to preserve the world on the continent,” Sandu believes.

At the same time, she admitted that for joining the EU, Moldova has to do a lot of “homework”. “Many of the reforms required by the EU are the same changes that our citizens demand from the authorities. And we will carry them out. We do not need short ways, and we do not expect concessions,” the president said.
