Scientists found most northern island of land

A group of scientists from Copenhagen University reported that he accidentally discovered the most northern island in the world off the coast of Greenland, reports BBC News.

According to the post, in July, scientists flew to collect the soil samples on the island, which, as they thought, was the Oodaq Island (OodaAq), opened in 1978. However, when they checked their location, they were 800 meters further to the north.

“In a few very exciting minutes, we landed on a strange unprocessed bunch of dirt, sea sediments and gravel, surrounded by sea ice – not very friendly location,” said the scientific director Morten Rush from the Arctic Station of the University of Copenhagen.

Island 60×30 meters is the most close to the north pole point. Scientists want the island to be called “Kekertak Avannarleq” (QEQERTAQ AVANNARLEQ), which translated from Greenland means “the northernmost island”.
