South of France in fire

Hundreds of firefighters fight Megapozhar in the south of France, reports Al Jazeera.

The flame has already burned more than 600 hectares of forest. Fire teams have not yet been able to take control. More than 900 people were attracted to the fight against the elements in the southern part of the French region of GAS. “This fire is far from completion, in hard -to -reach areas there are fronts that we have not captured and which are freely advanced,” said Eric Agrinya, a senior employee of the fire service on Friday. “It will be a feat of endurance.”

described by emergency rescue services as Megapozhar, the fire began near the village of Bordezak and caused a forced evacuation from nearby Biaryzh and other settlements on Thursday evening.

At the moment, 12 aircraft and 2 helicopters have been attracted to extinguish fire from the air. Roads near dangerous territories are blocked.

The situation is aggravated by abnormal heat and drought in the region. The fire service said that thousands of hectares of wooded areas were at risk, since gusts of wind at a speed of up to 80 km/h (50 miles per hour) spread a flame among dried trees. At the moment, the fight against fire is still ongoing.
