Steinmeier: Germany and Russia are now opposing each other

Germany should reduce dependence on Russia and rely only on itself, because now Berlin and Moscow are opposed to each other. This was stated by President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier, writes Deutsche Welle.

“Our countries are opposed to each other today,” he said, emphasizing that Berlin supports Kyiv in the war against Russia.

According to the German president, Germany could not ignore the Russian-Ukrainian war and remain indifferent, so it joined the sanctions and other initiatives of assistance to Ukraine.

Frank-Walter Steinmeier noted that Germany must be abandoned by old samples of thinking and hopes, especially in relation to Russia. After February 24, a new era came for the country.

“Dividends of peacetime are exhausted. For Germany, the era of oncoming wind comes,” the president emphasized. Now the country will count on its economy, scientific research, strong enterprises and the state.
