In Peru, the protests of the supporters of the former president Pedro Castillo continue. The demonstrators blocked the roads and stormed the International Airport in Arekip, the second largest city in the country. At least seven people have already died in clashes with security forces, BBC reports.

Protesters claim that the vice-president of Dean Boloart, who occupied the presidential chair, was not elected by the people, and require new elections.

On Monday, December 12, the protesters blocked the roads and set fire to cars, about two thousand people broke into the airport in the city of Aekyp in the south of the country, blocking the runway and forced to suspend flights for several hours. On Sunday in the city of Andauaylas that in the native region of Bolarta – Apurimak, there were new clashes between protesters and the police, when the demonstrators tried to storm the city airport.

Last week, the court decided to conclude former President Castillo into custody for seven days, while an investigation will be carried out for the charges of a rebellion. Castillo in response accused his opponents of undermining democratic foundations and, referring to the demands of the population throughout the country, announced the creation of an emergency temporary government and the convocation of a new parliament, which will be created by a new Constitution.

Castillo – a supporter of left -wing ideas and a school teacher – was elected President Peru in June 2021. In the election, he defeated Kayko Fuhimory, the daughter of President Alberto Fuhimory, who was posted in 1990-2000 and later sentenced to six years in prison for abuse of power.
