UN: called Russia and Ukraine to maximum restraint

UN Security Council called on all directions of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict to show maximum restraint and avoid unilateral actions, DW reports

According to UN estimates, the crisis around Ukraine reached the maximum point since the annexation of Crimea eight years ago.

“The tension around Ukraine is now higher than at any other point since 2014. The current situation with speculation and accusations in a possible military conflict is extremely dangerous,” said the Deputy Secretary General of the Organization of Rosemary Dikarlo, speaking at the UN Security Council meeting in Thursday, February 17th.

She called on all sides of the conflict to show maximum restraint and avoid any one-sided actions that contradict the wording and spirit of Minsk agreements or may jeopardize their implementation and lead to a new tension.

“All problems can and should be regulated by the funds of diplomacy, we support any such efforts, including through the UN Secretary-General Representative Office,” Dikarlo said.

Note that earlier the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken accused Russia in the preparation of an attack on Ukraine.

According to him, Russian troops are preparing to start an attack on Ukraine in the coming days. At the same time, he accused Russia that she plans to create an excuse for invasion, using for this purpose a false and even real attack with the use of chemical weapons.
