US Army may be left without most powerful nuclear bombs

In the coming years, the US Army may be left without the most powerful nuclear bombs. According to Interfax with reference to the information of Congress, the strategic command of the American Armed Forces has approximately 50 nuclear bombs B83 with a capacity of 1.2 megaton. They entered service in 1983, and their shelf life will expire in the 2020s

According to the experts of the Federation of American scientists, these bombs are already outdated and became unnecessary – plutonium and uranium decompose in them. At the same time, the modernization of such ammunition requires very large costs.

The National Nuclear Security Directorate said that the States is currently modernizing the B61 atomic bomb. Until 2026, it is planned to make 480 air bombs and place about a hundred in Europe. New air bombs will become more accurate and easily controlled.
