US: Muslim can first become a federal judge

US President Joe Biden identified candidates for eight judges, and for the first time in the history of the state, a Muslim woman can become a federal judge. Among the candidates proposed by Biden, was Nusrat Chaudhary, director of the human rights organization American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) from Illinois.

Chaudhary can become a federal judge on the Eastern District of New York. It is engaged in human rights activities since 2008. In the case of approval of her candidacy, Nusrat will be the first American of Bangladeshic origin as a federal judge and the second follower of Islam (the first federal Muslim Judge is a man), writes IslamNews with reference to Reuters.

Biden tried to nominate the positions of federal judges of the lawyers of various focus, incl. Human rights defenders, public lawyers, as well as representatives of various ethnic and confessional communities. Among the candidates chosen by Biden on various state posts, there is a large number of women and representatives of racial minorities.
