USA is confident in achieving a consensus to expand NATO

US authorities are sure that the consensus regarding Sweden and Finland will be achieved into NATO, the White House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre said at a briefing for journalists.

“We are sure that the consensus will be achieved regarding the entry procedure if they decide to submit an application,” she said, answering the question of how Washington may try to influence the position of Ankara, who opposed the entry of two countries in NATO.

As Jean-Pierre recalled, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken also previously expressed confidence that “consensus will be achieved regarding Turkey, as well as submitting an application by Sweden and Finland.”

“There is a discussion. I cannot say for the authorities of Turkey what they want or what they achieve, but we have confidence,” TASS quotes it.

Jean-Pierre did not answer the question of what exactly the steps can take.
