USA is world leader in field of capture and storage of carbon

The USA, which in 1972, created the world’s first carbon capture and storage object (English CARBON Capture and Storage, CCS) continues to lead in this area both in the number of functioning objects and 131 projects that they plan to implement to 2040.

According to the Anadolu agency with reference to the “Report on the situation for 2023” of the global institute of carbon storage and storage, carbon emissions that occur as a result of the work of thermal power plants, factory pipes and the use of fossil fuel, accumulate in various corners of the planet.

Carboning and storage of carbon – a process that includes the CO2 separation from industrial and energy sources, transportation to the place of storage and long -term insulation from the atmosphere. Typically, CO2 is captured in a large source of gas emissions, for example, a cement plant or power plant on a biomass, and its conclusion in the corresponding geological formations.

The main goal of developing carbon technologies and the storage of carbon and the implementation of projects for the construction of the relevant enterprises is to reduce global emissions and limit air temperature to 1.5 degrees in accordance with the Paris Agreement, as well as the fight against environmental pollution.

Currently, the United States is the leader in the development of technologies for capturing and storing carbon dioxide.

In the territory of the States, there are 15 enterprises to capture and store carbon dioxide. In second place is China – 12 enterprises. This is followed by Canada (seven enterprises) and Norway (two enterprises).

The remaining 7 objects are in Brazil, Hungary, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Australia, Qatar and Iceland.

Thanks to these objects, approximately 65 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere are prevented annually.

At the moment, the implementation of 277 projects for the construction of enterprises for capturing and storage of carbon continues around the world. It is planned to complete them by 2040.

Until 2027, the construction of 21 enterprises for capturing and storage of carbon should be completed. Of these, seven are built in the USA, three in Norway, two in China, Qatar and Iceland. The remaining five are built in Canada, Oman, the Netherlands, Australia and Malaysia.

The total annual power of the projects under construction and storage of carbon dioxide emissions is 28.9 million tons.

At the development stage around the world, there are 256 projects, including 124 in the United States. 38 more of such objects are planned to be opened by the UK, 19 – Canada.

Last year, the United States increased the number of enterprises under construction and storage of carbon on 73 compared to the previous year.

The USA today is a leader in the world: by 2040 it is planned to be completed in a total of 131 projects.
