Voting at home in presidential election takes place in Lithuania

On Friday, Lithuania is voting at the house in the presidential election scheduled for May 12.

At the same time, citizens vote at a referendum on the introduction of the Institute of Double Citizenship, reports LRT.

Voting at home on Friday and Saturday have the right of a person over 70 years old, disabled, as well as voters temporarily disabled due to illness. 597 thousand voters can use the right to vote at home.

Early voting began in Lithuania on May 7. Within three days, it took place in buildings of 60 self -government and in some other specialized places. Voters could vote ahead of schedule on any site, regardless of the place.

eight politicians are fighting for the presidency, including the current President of Gitanas Nauceda.

Simultaneously with the presidential election in Lithuania, a mandatory referendum on the legalization of dual citizenship is held.

It is proposed to change the constitution, excluding from it a situation that now prevents Lithuania citizens to acquire second citizenship.

In particular, this provision that “in addition to individual cases provided for by law, no one can be a citizen of the Republic of Lithuania and another state at the same time.”

Presidential elections and a referendum on the legalization of dual citizenship will be held on Sunday, May 12.
