Weapons in space will not be: UN approved draft resolution

The First Committee of the UN General Assembly, specializing in disarmament and international security issues, on Monday, on November 1, supported the draft Russian-Chinese resolution “on the first weapons in space.” The document voted 125 states, against 35, abstained 22.

The UN General Assembly urges all states, including those having space potential, consider the ability to “express commitment to a political obligation to undiscovered weapons in space,” RIA Novosti reports. It is also noted that the UN GA confirms the importance and urgency of the task of preventing the arms race in space. In addition, ha calls for a speedy start of work on the basis of a new draft agreement on the prevention of placement of weapons in space, as well as the use of force or threat to power facilities.
