WHO can close office in Moscow

The European Regional Committee of the World Health Organization (WHO) during a special session adopted a resolution that proposes to study the possibilities of transferring the WHO office outside Russia to combat non -infectious diseases located in Moscow, RIA Novosti reports.

A special secretary specialist on the situation in the field of healthcare in Ukraine was convened at the request of 43 Member States of the WHO European Bureau. The draft relevant resolution was initiated by more than 35 countries participating in the organization. For the draft resolution, Ukraine, Georgia, Turkey, Moldova, Israel, as well as the EU countries voted. Russia, Belarus and Tajikistan opposed the resolution, Armenia and Kazakhstan abstained.

The resolution invites the director of the European Regional Bureau Hans Klage “to study the possibilities, consulting with the Member States of the European Regional Committee of WHO, to ensure technical assistance and support from the European Office of WHO to prevent non-infectious diseases and combat them, including the possibility of moving the above office outside Russia. ” In addition, the document calls for a call to consider the possibility of suspension of all regional meetings in Russia, as well as conferences and seminars whose composition is determined by the European Bureau of WHO, up to the peaceful resolution of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
