110-year-old Resident Of Iraq Earns Living By Trade In Household Goods

Iraqi long -liver Ahmed Maruf Hassan, who lives in the city of Suleimania, despite the advanced age – 110 years – still earns a living by selling brooms and household goods.

At the same time, he has to walk on the streets of his hometown daily for hours where he was born and raised. A man began his work life as a child and continues to work until now, because he does not want to be for anyone.

Hassan also with special zeal makes all prayers in the mosque, starting with the morning.

In an interview with Anadol, Hassan said that over his 110 years of life he witnessed many significant events, including the last years of the Ottoman Empire and the British occupation of Iraq.

In 1974, the resident of Suleimania managed to commit Hajj. He said that since childhood he has been engaged in trade and traveled to Iran and Baghdad in his youth, from where he brought goods for sale.

Hassan explained that he walks the streets daily, selling brooms and washcloths, and in this way he earns a living. “I have no desire to sit at home. I want to constantly work. I have always been engaged in trade in order to not depend on anyone,” the man says.

An elderly man always makes a prayer in the mosque along with believers, and goes to the morning prayer even before Azan.

On some days, you have to walk for 3 hours, and on others – 6 hours to sell goods, Hassan says. A centenary resident of Suleimania added that there is no one in his area more who would be so old.
