110th International Labour Conference to open on May 27

The 110th session of the International Labour Conference (ILC) will take place between 27 May and 11 June 2022.

The Conference will be held in hybrid format, with delegates attending in person in Geneva, as well as virtually, to take account of COVID-19 sanitary and travel restrictions, as well as renovation work at the UN and ILO buildings in Geneva.

The ILC’s opening sitting (which will be fully virtual), will take place on 27 May. Committees will begin their work on 30 May. Plenary sittings will be held between 6 and 11 June. The high-level World of Work Summit will take place on 10 June. The Conference will close on 11 June.

Among the items on the agenda will be the possible amendment of the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, 1998, to include safe and healthy working conditions.

An initial discussion on apprenticeships will take place, with a view to the possible creation of a new international labour standard.

Committees will also discuss decent work and the social and solidarity economy, and the strategic objective of employment as part of the follow-up mechanism of the ILO Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization.

The Conference will be followed by a meeting of the ILO’s Governing Body on 13 June, when it will elect its Officers for the period 2022-2023.

Journalists who are not already accredited to the UN in Geneva and who wish to be accredited to the ILC will need to register in advance, providing a letter of assignment, identification document and work samples.

Public sittings of the ILC can be followed on the new ILO Live web platform, which will include live coverage of the plenary sessions. The “World of Work Show”, covering key ILC moments and themes, will also be broadcast on ILO Live.

All ILC coverage, as well as photos, videos and social media links will be available via the Conference webpages.

The ILC, sometimes known as the world parliament of labour, is the largest international gathering dedicated to the world of work, attended by representatives of governments, employers and workers from the 187 ILO Member States. Delegates discuss key world of work issues, adopt and monitor the application of International Labour Standards and set the ILO’s global priorities and budget.
