The Minister of Industry and Tourism of Spain Zordi Hereu said that the number of tourists who visited the country in 2023 exceeded 84 million people, which became the highest in history.
Speaking to the press, Hereu said that before the outbreak of the Kovid-19 virus, the maximum number of tourists, reached in 2019, increased by 1 percent in 2023 and by 19 percent compared to 2022.
indicating that, according to statistics, the maximum number of tourists who have ever visited the country amounted to 83.5 million people in 2019, Minister Hereu noted that in 2023 this figure was exceeded and increased to 84 million.
The Minister also said that in 2023 the total tourism income exceeded 108 billion euros, which is 17.4 percent more than in 2019, and 23.8 percent more than in 2022, compared with the previous years.
The Spanish minister added that in the absence of special external factors, a record number of tourists and tourism income is expected in 2024.
Official accurate data on tourism will be declared by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) next week.
