The III Games of the Commonwealth of Independent States, which took place from September 28 to October 8 in seven cities of the country, have ended in Azerbaijan. The program included competitions in 21 sports, including athletics, swimming, judo, taekwondo, freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, boxing, sambo, fencing, gymnastics and table tennis. A total of 505 sets of medals were awarded.
According to the results of the medal count, the Russian team took first place – 231 awards, of which 130 were gold. Russian athletes distinguished themselves in swimming, wrestling, athletics and gymnastics.
Azerbaijan is in second place with 184 medals, of which 33 are gold, won mainly in wrestling, boxing, judo and taekwondo. Belarus took third place with 122 medals, 32 of which were gold. The successes of Belarusian athletes were in swimming, rowing, sambo, karate and fencing.
The Uzbekistan team took fourth place with 119 medals, mainly in martial arts and gymnastics. Kazakhstani athletes distinguished themselves in wrestling, boxing and athletics, winning 10 gold, 24 silver, 48 bronze medals. Kyrgyzstan finished the Games with 25 medals, of which 1 gold, 15 silver and 9 bronze, mainly in wrestling and taekwondo.
The Tajik team, in turn, won 22 awards, including one gold. Boxer Bekhruz Umarov became the champion. The republic’s athletes won the remaining medals in wrestling, judo, taekwondo and sambo. In total, Tajikistan was represented by 142 athletes in 18 disciplines.
Athletes from 13 countries took part in the Games, and representatives of 10 countries won awards.
