40th Session of Congress, 15

The Congress will hold the second part of its 40th Session from 15 to 17 June 2021. The session will be held remotely, due to the current COVID-19 health crisis.

The Congress will consider two reports on LGBTI issues, one on the Protection of LGBTI people in the context of rising anti-LGBTI hate speech and discrimination and the role of local and regional authorities and another one regarding the role of local authorities and the situation and rights of LGBTI people in Poland.

In the framework of its monitoring activities concerning compliance with the European Charter on Local Self-Government, the Congress will adopt the monitoring reports on Armenia, Azerbaijan and Bulgaria. In this respect the Congress will also consider “Recurring issues based on assessments resulting from Congress monitoring of the European Charter of Local Self-Government and election observation missions (reference period 2017-2020)”

In addition the Congress will discuss thematic reports on “Territorial solidarity: the role of regions”, “Culture without borders: Cultural heritage management for local and regional development”, “Home sharing platforms: challenges and opportunities for municipalities” and “Holding referendums at local level”.

Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić, Mayor of Budapest, Gergely Karácsony and the Mayor of Prague, Zdeněk Hřib, will also participate in the session.

The Congress chambers will discuss post-COVID recovery.
