A reception was organized in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, on the occasion of the 42nd anniversary of the founding of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
The reception, organized by the TRNC Ambassador to Azerbaijan Ufuk Turganer, was attended by the Turkish Ambassador to Baku Birol Akgün, deputies, representatives of Turkish institutions and organizations operating in Azerbaijan, businessmen and numerous guests.
At the event the anthems of Turkey and Azerbaijan were played.
In his speech, Ambassador Turganer expressed condolences in connection with the death of military personnel who died on November 11 as a result of the crash of a military transport plane of the Turkish Armed Forces on the border of Georgia and Azerbaijan.
The Ambassador touched upon the topic of pressure and oppression that the Turkic people of Cyprus have been subjected to at the hands of the Greeks for many years, as well as the peace operation carried out by Turkey and the process the creation of the TRNC.
Noting that, despite the unjust and inhuman blockade and isolation to which the TRNC has been subjected for many years, it continues to develop and strengthen thanks to the support of the Republic of Turkey, Turganer said: “The Turks of Cyprus, realizing the value of their sovereignty, independence and statehood, will persevere in their just struggle.”
“A fair and sustainable solution to the Cyprus issue based on the fact that there are two separate peoples and two separate states is possible only with the recognition of the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish people of Cyprus,” he said.
Stressing that membership in the Organization of Turkic States is a great responsibility for the TRNC, the ambassador added: “The TRNC actively participates in the activities and events of the Turkish world. The unity and cohesion of the Turkic world are of great importance in the current situation.”
Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group. Azerbaijan-TRNC Javanshir Feyziyev congratulated the TRNC on the 42nd anniversary of its founding.
He noted that “the TRNC is one of the brightest examples of national will and political struggle for freedom in the history of the Turkish world,” and pointed out the discriminatory attitude towards the TRNC on the part of Western states.
The deputy, adding that this situation prompted the Turkic world to provide moral and political support to its Cypriots brothers, recalled the words of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev: “The TRNC is an integral part of the Turkic world, and we will always be on the side of our brothers.”
Feyziyev stressed that the Azerbaijan-TRNC Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group will continue to work to strengthen friendship, brotherhood, cultural and economic relations between the two peoples.
