7 years have passed since referendum on Brexit in UK

7 years have passed since the referendum in the UK, which launched the process (Brexit) of the kingdom of the EU from the European Union after 47 years.

Voting at the Brexit referendum took place on June 23, 2016, as many politicians and citizens saw more prospects for the kingdom outside the European Union. However, seven years later in society, debate still did not cease about whether expectations were justified. According to the results of the referendum, 52 percent of British citizens voted for the country’s exit from the European Union.

The government of the former Prime Minister Teresa Mei could not get from the parliament of the approval of the Brexit agreement between the EU and London. The kingdom was supposed to officially leave the EU on March 29, 2019. However, due to the fact that Brexit agreements were not able to coordinate, the process was postponed twice, first until October 31 of the same year, and then until January 31, 2020.

According to the results of early parliamentary elections in the UK on December 12, 2019, the conservative party received the majority of votes in parliament. The new government was formed under the leadership of Boris Johnson.

Johnson submitted a draft agreement on Brexit to parliament, and thanks to the large number of his supporters, he received the approval of the legislative body.

Despite the fact that in Brussels they did not see the opportunity to agree on all points before the specified period, the UK refused to renew the deadlines and officially left the EU on December 31, 2020. London said that if necessary, they would leave the European Union without an agreement (the so -called “hard Brexit”).

Thus, the UK left the European Union after 47 years in the association. Brexit took place exactly at 23:00 on January 31 by London time (02:00 on February 1 in Turkish). In London, government buildings were lit in the colors of the national flag, and the clock on the building of the premiere’s residence counted the time remaining before Brexit.

A 50-pensal coin dedicated to the withdrawal of Great Britain from the EU was released into circulation. The coin is engraved by the inscription “Peace, prosperity and friendship with all nations.”

with Brexit, Great Britain has lost membership in the European Parliament and the European Commission. Between the EU and Great Britain, new rules have entered into force regarding trade, crossing borders, migration and other things.

The British lost the right to unlimited residence and permission to work in the EU countries. Citizens of the EU countries have the right to live in the UK only if they comply with the migration conditions of the country.

According to polls, after seven years, many citizens and politicians say that Brexit did not live up to their expectations.

According to the results of the UK in A Changing Europe and Public FIRST, only 18 percent of citizens who voted for leaving the European Union in 2016 still believe that Brexit has positively affected life in the UK.

Most of the opponents of Brexit believe that they did not live up to expectations due to “poor management.”
